Then we’ll show you one of the few remaining authentic windmills and visit an entertaining Dutch farmer at his cheese farm/clog factory, where he will demonstrate the traditional art of making wooden shoes.
Join us on our newest bike tour in 2017 through the beautiful Waterland north of Amsterdam. In addition to a lovely ride through the polder landscape that surrounds Amsterdam we will cycle through three little villages. Zunderdorp will be the first of them. In Ransdorp we stop and climb a 90 meter high church that is more then 400 years old. Then it’s the village of Durgerdam, situated on a levee holding back the outer Ij, the body of water northeast of Amsterdam. More

Meet girl Mike the other Mike on a bike. Having been born 4 m below sea level, wearing clogs helped her not to sink too much deeper into the soggy polder. After spending many years even deeper below sea level as a scuba instructor, this native Dutch girl is now delighted to lead people above water around Amsterdam and explaining the sites using more than just hand signals.
Canadian-born of Dutch parents, Pete has been living in Amsterdam since 1989. He ran a coffeshop out of a squat. Worked as a Ducth-English translator and earned a highschool teaching degree. He left all that to teach scuba diving each winter in order to come back freshly tanned and chipper each spring to guide bike tours in the town where his father grew up and where his roots are now. Speaking fluent Dutch, Pete can truly be considered a local. He uses his bike to go everywhere.
George was found by Egg one day walking down the Kerkstraat. We think he started out as entertainment for a Stag party in Amsterdam, but must have escaped the madness. He was looking abandoned and rather sad and in need of rescue, so Mike’s Bike Tours adopted this cutie and he has been hanging around ever since. This is the most popular and photographed member of our team and he’s always up for a hug and picture.
Karl started hanging out at Mike’s Bike Tours in the last millennium. Always renting our bicycles when in Amsterdam to do some busking. When he started sporting our shirts while performing, we thought we might as well give him a try as a tour guide. This entertainer is a mad mix of Midlands Muppet and San Francisco Pretzel with a Dutch twist. Karl has proven himself a great addition to the team and you can expect a mind blowing experience if you’re lucky enough.
Born in the jungles of Zanzibar, Geoff spent his formative years being raised by a family of marmosets. After he realized that he was not actually a monkey, he spent the next few years writing political propaganda for various African ‘Democracies’.
Now however, he lives (mostly) in Amsterdam where he splits his time between breeding chipmunks, sacrificing Miley Cyrus CD’s during full moons, perfecting the ultimate martini, and putting tourists on bicycles to see the city.
Meet Aaron our mystery man. This American has settled in Amsterdam and is living with his Dutch dream woman and beautiful daughter. When he is not stilt walking, making music or working on his Cool guide to Amsterdam, he’s freelancing as tour guide extraordinaire for Mike’s Bike Tours. As a writer for one of the most popular guide books of Amsterdam you can expect him to amaze you with the coolest advises on anything in Amsterdam.
Born at midnight on a full moon, MT soon realized that she was the reincarnation of an ancient African witch doctor. And has spent her recent years spreading her tribal propaganda throughout various Caribbean Islands. Nowadays, she is living in Amsterdam trying to accumulate enough talismans to achieve her ultimate goal of world domination.
During the harsh winter of 37 Brandon was born in an Igloo in the Yukon. At the age of 3 he was abandoned at the Canadian Carnival to be raised on a unicycle by the bearded lady. After banishment from Canada for beaver hunting, he was sent a drift on an iceberg only to arrive in the Netherlands after a year a float in the arctic. The Dutch where the first to introduce Brandon to a cycle with two wheels. Since then he has made his home here in the circus of Mike’s Bike Tours, where he’ll be at your service in our shop on the Prins Hendrikkade.
Gideon is as Dutch as Dutch can be, growing up in the Suburbs of Amsterdam which he love to refer as the farmlands, he ‘fixed’ the problem at the age of 17 when he moved to his City called Amsterdam. With an open and straight forward approach, he never backs down for a welcoming smile. Gideon is one of our “multitaskers” who makes sure everything in the shop runs smooth and according to plan. He also loves to take people out on a tour and show them around. In his eyes being a Tour-guide is the most awesome job in the world.
Be careful that you don’t get trapped in his ongoing conversations if you would like to leave in time. There is literally no way to shut him up once he gets going ; )
Bente is our crazy Danish hippie rasta rock chick. She joined the team back in 2000 when the bike rental shop became a reality and she has since helped make it a smooth running part of the business. Her official title is Office and P.R. manager, but this being a small company means she’ll take care of anything that’s needed from answering email, designing our flyer, updating the website and of course renting out bikes and help you pick one of our bike tours. She’ll always try her best to make your Amsterdam experience become a blast, so if you have any issues always ask for Bente and she’ll do her best to solve it.
Egg/Michael grew up in Minnesota, USA. He almost earned a masters degree in European and Russian history and is now very happy to be using his education and not delivering pizzas anymore for a living. He has been the Owner/operator of Mike’s Bike Tours Amsterdam since 1999 and has gained a huge amount of knowledge about Amsterdam, the Netherlands and its history and even learned how to speak Dutch. Even though he doesn’t give a lot of tours anymore he still rocks as a tour guide when he’s needed.
Born and raised in the Netherlands Dan now lives in Almere and rides into work every day on his racing bike, so he can assist us in one of our shops, where you can mostly find him fixing the bikes or renting out a bike with a smile.
