Mike’s Bike Tours
Amsterdam Light Festival bike tour
From 30 November 2017 until 21 January 2018, the sixth edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival takes place. This annual light art festival for all ages transforms Amsterdam’s city centre into an open-air light museum. Art pieces and installations by contemporary international artists, designers, and architects light up the inner city on and around the canals. Mike’s Bike Tours has become an official partner and we’ll be offering late afternoon and evening bike tours to experience the amazing lights installation around town.
On our Amsterdam light festival bike tour, we’ll show you all the amazing light displays, give you a run down on the artists and their art installations as well. We’ll be sure to position the stops, so you’ll be able to get the best possible views of the art works all along the route and give you the chance to take some photos. We’ll also cover some of the history of the city and the areas we bike through.
The route itself will begin at our garage, from there we will bike to the Nieuwe Herengracht and check out the 4 amazing light artworks on our way to the Amstel river where we stop at the light displays at the Hermitage museum and near the Skinny bridge. Then we’ll make our way along the Herengracht and stop at all the 7 different light art installations along this beautiful canal. Then we continue along the harbor and Oosterdok back towards our garage, where we of course also will be stopping to see the gorgeous light artworks at the docks, the Nemo and Scheepvaart museum.
In addition, during the dates of December 14 – January 7th there will be a special land exhibition which takes place on the former Maritime Yard and during these dates we’ll of course go through this area, so you can experience these wonderful light artworks as well.
For this year’s Amsterdam light festival, artists were challenged to work within the theme ‘Existential’. With this theme Amsterdam Light Festival encourages visitors to reflect on what unites people and the role light plays in this. Among the works is a special light object by world-renowned Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei. We’re sure there will be lots of amazing art works to experience and we are excited to be a partner of this years Amsterdam Light festival.
Join us for an unforgettable ride through Amsterdam where the light installations will be adding a special touch to our beautiful city.
